The BEST thing I learned this year!

Sweet Miss Kindergarten is having a linky party!! What's the BEST thing I learned this year?!?!?!
It's my differentiated Reading Response station. I absolutely love it! This is located right above my little listening station. After a student listens to a story, they pick out a reading response sheet from their level. There are two choices from each level because I truly believe in the power of choice (with structure). I try my best to incorporate it into my daily routine as much as possible. As for the response sheets, I like to use graphic organizers from different resource books. I've made a packet of 25 higher order thinking reading response sheets that you can check out HERE. You should also check out Erica Bohrer's Reading Response Activity Sheets !! YAY Erica for creating this AMAZING resource!!!

On a decorative note, I'm looking forward to making this station look SO much cuter than it did this year!! I admit...I kinda threw it up on the walls. I wasn't sure if it would work for my kiddos and didn't want to invest a ton of time if it was going to sink. I can't wait to have some makeover fun this summer now that I know it's a keeper!!!

Hope you all are having a great weekend!! I'm so excited about my newest set of math and literacy centers...let's just say it's SWEET!!! I should have it ready by the end of the week!! This is my favorite one y'all & I can't wait to share it with you!!

Happy Sunday!!!

Math Word Wall Labels

Hey Everyone! I wanted to share a wonderful website full of elementary math resources that anyone can use! It was created by a school system not far away from where I teach. My favorite thing on the site are the K-5 math vocabulary word wall labels...I've used them in my room for the past 2 years!! They're GREAT! You can check them out {HERE}!

Happy Friday Eve!!!

Back to School Fun!!!

Summer's here...so that means it's time to prepare for the beginning of the upcoming school year...haha! I'm always in teacher mode...it's a strength & a weakness of mine!! BUT I absolutely love taking advantage of my "free time" to brainstorm ideas for when my new little bunch of first graders arrive!!My creativity thrives when I have time to rest, relax, and recharge!! Ahhhhhh, I heart you summertime!!!!

Centers are a huge part of my classroom routine! I like to go ahead and begin introducing (slowly) how my kiddos should work during center time during the first full week of school (we start on a Wed.).  Usually, I pull small reading groups during our center time, but during the first two weeks, I just circulate the room....praising...and well ummm, redirecting my heart out!!! To start the year out with a BANG, I made a "Back to School" themed math and literacy center packet!!! It includes 5 hands on math centers that focus mainly on basic number sense skills. The 5 hands on literacy centers focus on phonics, alphabetical order, sentence structure, and writing. I can't wait to use them after I enjoy every minute second of my summer vacation!!!

Here's a little sneak peak of all the goodies in this packet!

Here's a lil' something for YOU! In one game, your smarties drop two counters on the game board and use the numbers the counters land on to make addition/subtraction number sentences.  Using the same game board, your kiddos can also drop two counters and write which is the greater/lesser number. Click on the picture for the two school themed number toss activities!!!

If you want to check out my Back to School Math and Literacy Center Packet {80 pages} just click HERE to go to my TpT store.

Hope everyone is having a great day!!!

Ahoy, Me Hearties!
I know, I know....another pirate post, but I can't help myself!!!

During the last week of school, my sweet kiddos and I enjoyed all things pirate related! They loved working on their pirate math and literacy centers, but boy did "Dress Up Like a Pirate Day" top it off! OH. MY. WORD!! My little precious pirates were all so dang cute! They all came in with smiles on their faces & we had the best piratical time together to wrap up our wonderful year in first grade!!!
We went on an adventurous treasure hunt! I gave each child a special treasure map to find their delicious chocolate gold coin!!! FUN!!!

We made aged styled treasure maps!!
Want to make one?

1st- Ball up a piece of white paper...

until you get a very wrinkled up piece of paper!

2nd-Tear off the edges of the wrinkled paper!!

3rd- Pour cold tea/coffee over the paper to dye it!

4th- Put paper out in the sun to dry!

5th- Make an awesome treasure map!!

These turned out adorable & the kids LOVED the whole process of making them!!!

My little mateys were also writing up a storm this week! Click on the pictures to download the writing prompt sheets I used to spark their imaginations!!

Pirate Fun!!

This is my last week with my sweet first graders!! Only 4 more days left...I can't believe it!! We are still going strong and having a BLAST while working on our pirate themed centers/activities!! Here are descriptions and a few pictures of them!!

Pirate Editor- My *almost* 2nd graders had to correct the pirate themed sentences in this literacy center. They showed how they corrected each sentence on their recording sheet.

Making Words with "Shiver Me Timbers"- In this literacy center, my kiddos made as many words as they could with the letters in Shiver Me Timbers. Yo ho ho fun!!

Pirate's Mystery AR Words- In this literacy center, the students unscrambled each set of letters to reveal the mystery /ar/ words! Arghhhhh!!!

Pirate Read the Room with /ar/ & /or/ Words- My students can't get enough of my read the room activities. This one reinforced "the bossy R"!

Pirate Sentence Fun- In this literacy center, my smarties unscrambled the words to make a pirate themed complete sentence!

Pirate's Number Toss Game- In this math game, my students dropped two counters on the scroll game board. They used the numbers the counters landed on to make addition and subtraction sentences!!

Fair Trade Treasure- My sweet ones had a great fair trade review with this center! They had to match each pair of fair trades and show them on their recording sheet!

Pirate Place Value- In this math center, students had to show whether the underlined number on each card was in the ones or the tens place! Great place value review!!

All of these centers and more are in my Pirate Fun Math and Literacy Center Packet! You can swing by my TpT store to check it out {HERE}! A BIG thank you to everyone who has already gotten their copy!!
Hope everyone is having a wonderful evening!!

Arghhhhhh!!!!

One of my sweet TpT customers pointed out an "OOPS" in my Pirate Center Packet today!!! I tried to send an e-mail out to everyone who bought it, but I am only allowed one TpT message each month....I just wanted you to know that there should have been 5 boxes instead of 6 on the Pirate Problem Solving recording sheet!! I corrected this mistake and the new recording sheet is available for you to reprint!! I'M SO SO SO SORRY!!!  I will be making a free downloadable center this weekend so be on the lookout for it!!!!

Have a wonderful evening!!!

Under the Sea Center FUN!

I love having an ocean theme during the last couple weeks of school! What's perfect is that we are performing our ocean themed 1st grade play on Thursday called "Sounds a Little Fishy to Me"!! My sweet peas are having a blast working on this week's Under the Sea Math and Literacy Centers. Here are descriptions of the centers we're enjoying together!!!

Read the Room- My sweeties read and sorted the /ace/ and /ice/ mermaid cards. They love reading our classroom!!

Fishy Facts and Opinions- In this literacy center, the students read the ocean themed sentences and sorted them by facts and opinions.

Making Words with "Under the Sea"- WOW! My students are masters at making words at this point in the year....I was amazed at the words they were making today!!! They love this center!!

Deep Sea Graphing- In this math center, students reviewed addition, making a tally chart, and making a bar graph. They sorted and counted all the adorable ocean creatures, solved addition problems, & represented them in a tally chart and a bar graph! It was a great review and oh so much fun!!

Fishy Fact Families- In this math center, my little love babies created fact families with the fishy fact family cards! This is one of those skills where I think repetition is important so we are constantly reviewing how addition & subtraction are related!

Under the Sea Sums- In this matching sums game, my sweeties sorted the addition and subtraction cards by sums of 10, 12, 18, & 20! Then they completed a cut/paste recording sheet to show their work!
A Sea Full of Sentences- Another class fav! My kiddos made ocean themed complete sentences with each set of cards. This center never gets old in my room!!

Deep Sea Skip Counting- In this skip counting center, the students had to unscramble each number pattern. It reviewed skip counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's.

Under the Sea Story Problems- Students read each ocean themed story problem and showed how they solved it on their recording sheet. My loves have had a center like this one every week for a good 3-4 months and BOY have they got the problem solving process down...I'm so proud!!! This was a hard skill for them this year!!!

Crabby Contractions- These crabby contractions helped reinforce the word pairs that make contractions. It was a great review!!

All of these centers are in my Under the Sea Math & Literacy Center Packet. Click {HERE} to check it out at my TpT store!!

Time for bed, sweet friends!!! I'm all blogged out for the day!!
Sweet Dreams....
